The Furious Bongos are a Zappa project featuring musicians who have played alongside heavyweights like Yo Yo Ma, Mick Fleetwood, and Les Paul.

This isn’t strictly a “tribute” band – doing a note-for-note rendition of Song X from Album Y while staring at their shoes didn’t seem like the proper way to go about it. The result is a show that pays respect to Zappa’s legacy but is still new and different and dangerous, with lots of eyebrows.

Kinda like Frank.

Add extra fun to your Sunday Funday as Andrea von Kampen & Auralai will be performing live at Gibson Music Hall on July 28th, at 3:00 PM. Doors at 2pm with mimosas and bloody marys a-plenty!

Andrea von Kampen is an independent folk singer-songwriter based in Lincoln, Nebraska, whose effortless vocal delivery has been praised by Hear Nebraska as “soulful and worn-in.” With the successful release of two EP’s, Another Day (2015) and Desdemona (2016), a Christmas EP (2016), an Audiotree Live album (2017), and her debut full-length album Old Country (2019), Andrea has quickly established herself in the recording studio and on the road. She has shared the stage with artists such as Tall Heights, Ira Wolf, Dead Man Winter, The Brother Brothers, Dead Horses, Darling West and many more.

Old Country, Andrea von Kampen’s debut full-length album, was released on February 8th, 2019. The album was recorded and mastered in Nebraska and features exclusively Nebraska-based musicians. Inspiration for Andrea’s songs often come from literature, art, and nature; in particular the literature and nature of Nebraska and the Midwest. The title track, Old Country, is based on the book “My Ántonia” by Nebraska author Willa Cather.

Her single, Portland, received notable attention including features on The Bluegrass Situation, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. Additionally, Amazon Music Canada featured Portland in their ‘Top Songs of 2018’ playlist. In a review of Portland, Ear To The Ground Music said, “It’s not so much about where you’re going, but that you want to get away. That emotion of “idealistic escapism” is one that listeners can all connect with, whether or not we want to go to Oregon or somewhere else. The inflection in von Kampen’s vocal has the conviction of a gospel track and the sincerity of a Dylan folk ballad.”

* The Accords *

The Accords released their first EP “Paper Rhymes” in 2018, they have since worked with Grammy-Award winning producer Gavin Lurssen, on their two most recent singles “Vega’s Sun” and “Feels Like”.

This Wisconsin band has performed at many venues across the Midwest, including Summerfest.

The bands jam-based improvisations make for a memorable musical experience.
They have a unique blend of voices that enhance their sound, which is reminiscent of Southern California rock.

* Of The Orchard *

Of The Orchard was founded upon the roots of singer/songwriter, Ben Vanden Boogaard, and his desire to expand out from performing as a solo artist to being surrounded by a full band. In the winter of 2017, Ben recruited Lewis Wethall (drums), Alec Thicke (bass/backing vocals), and Zach Ward (guitar) to embark with him on a project called “10 in 10” where the four of them would record, film, and release a new single, accompanied by a music video, every month for 10 months between March 2017 – December 2017.

After several months of playing together and many enjoyable social outings later, the four guys began brainstorming a way for everyone to be included in the band name, as the project was originally started under Ben’s solo project, Ben Vanden Boogaard. A few evenings were spent brainstorming names which, needless to say, ended in failure as some of the “favorites” were: Benny and the Windmills, Daddy Tops, and Blood Kitten. Eventually, Of The Orchard emerged as the favorite, coming from the English translation of Ben’s last name: Vanden Boogaard.

Their unique sound combines each of the band members’ varied musical backgrounds including acoustic singer/songwriters, blues rock, and punk rock into one cohesive sound. As a result, Of The Orchard sounds like a love-child between John Mayer and Third Eye Blind, giving listeners thoughtful lyricism surrounded by melodious indie-rock.
