It’s the kind of music that the Carhartt-wearing, hard-working, industrial beer-drinking, regular Americans would listen to — the ones who could end up on an episode of TV’s Dirty Jobs. It’s a little raw, a bit loud, unapologetic and honest. It’s Americana rock and roll and it’s something that Denver’s Strange Americans are crafting with both brawn and finesse, like a hot rod mechanic bringing back an old barn find.

In a sense, Strange Americans are rescuing something from the rust pile — straight-forward, no frills rock and roll, and a matching aesthetic that is heavy on songwriting and storytelling, but presented with reverb-drenched punch and passion — the way The Band or Crazy Horse would have done it.

Strange Americans have three full-length records, Royal Battle (2012), That Kind of Luster (2014), and Borrow You, Brother (2017), along with the 7″ Vinyl Places (2015). Borrow You, Brother was recorded with Echo Lab engineer and producer Matt Pence (Centro-matic, Justin Townes Earle).

13 years ago, the band Sly Chef & the Vegetables played their first show at Water City Grill in Oshkosh, WI. Coincidentally, this was also the last performance by the Vegetables. But the trio that came together to make music that night immediately carried on with a new moniker, The Operators. The Operators evolved into the Smooth Operators and the rest is history.

The trio that started it all, the nucleus, the molten core, the Mother Brain of this operation, has remained firm all the while. Tonight, come join the original trio (Joe Slyzelia, Mike Underwood, David Jerabek) for our debut performance at a pretty sweetastic new music venue!

Caley Conway takes the stage in candy apple red with Pat Keen, slinging a matching telecaster and a new set of rules for the singer/songwriter paradigm. Rooted in folk but hardly bound to it, her inventive style ranges from jazz to post-rock, hints at the familiar, and embraces a dissonant beauty. The Milwaukee native’s breezy voice and disarming wit belie a deep complexity that has earned her praise as “the next big thing in folk music” by No Depression Magazine. Paste Magazine praised her 2016 full-length Silk for Life as “an ambitious piece that puts Conway on the map.” 2018 saw her sharing stages with the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, Joan Shelley and more. Equally enthralling as a solo performer or a full band with backup singers, Conway leaves rooms hushed; her audiences somewhere between chilled and chuckling.
