Arts Fishing Club: An Appleton Native turned Nashville transplant, Christopher Kessenich fronts the folk-rock collective known as Arts Fishing Club (AFC). Kessenich debuted his first studio EP in 2015 and completed a 1,600-mile WALKING tour from Maine to Tennessee where he played more than 50 shows and shot a documentary as one of “The Walking Guys.” Kessenich later met Matt Siffert (bass) and Peter Eddins (keys/sax) and the group toured throughout the midwest while polishing AFC’s sound and preparing for their first full-length record to be released in 2017. AFC’s live shows are known for their contemplative lyricism and foot-stomping grooves.

SAYERS: Based out of Chicago, SAYERS, according to Midwest Action, is “a damn fine indie rock band.” Their debut album, “Horror Stories”, is produced and engineered by Rob Bochnick (known as the lead guitarist for Glen Hansard) and Mike Hagler (Wilco, Neko Case). The album was released in April of 2018 to unanimous critical acclaim. The album features “tight guitar riffs and passionate vocals” that sometimes reminisces reviewers of an early “Elvis Costello” record (Listen Here Reviews). Notable singles, “Get Naked” and “The Arsonist”, have been featured on radio stations across the US, Canada, and Europe.
Currently, the band is touring the Midwest and playing to sold out crowds in Chicago. Expect to see a new double LP to drop in spring of 2019 from these indie rockers.

The Madtown Mannish Boys are a Madison-based Blues band who are steeped in Chicago-style Blues, including artists like Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Otis Spann, Paul Butterfield, and Little Walter. They play harmonica-driven tunes with gritty fervor and dynamic energy, and they perform with raw exuberance and driving rhythms that make you want to boogie!
Andy Smith has a powerful and soulful voice, reminiscent of some of the greats from Blues and R&B. Paul Schwoerer wields his harmonica with a chip on his shoulder and plays with nimble intensity, while Jesse “Honey Boy” Steinberg injects flurries of guitar riffs into the lively grooves laid down by Tim Payne (bass) and Nate Morenek (drums). Adam Pryor (keys) is one of the most sought-after Blues keyboardists in the Midwest, featuring endorsements from Hammond, Korg, Rev33, and Stay Stands, frequently joined by Jason Schultz (trombone) and Dan Resnick (saxophone).

“A humble man from the Northwoods, Billy Bronsted has a voice that fills the room and a smile that warms the heart. His gentle kindness comes through in his soulful performances, but don’t let that sound fool you. He’s witty, funny, and loving life.” – Livin’ in the NEW

FLANNEL FEST
Stone After Stone Records presents FlannelFest in collaboration with Mile of Music. Now in its 5th year in Madison and second year in Appleton, Flannel Fest has become an annual celebration of local, regional and national Americana music. Bust out your favorite flannel attire and join the fall-inspired party with some of Wisconsin’s most talented and decorated Wisco-Americana artists. Mile Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts headline the event.

We are once again pleased to partner with Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund, the non-profit benefactor of Flannel Fest. Miles Nielsen and the Rusted Hearts
For Miles Nielsen, every experience, every conversation, every dream is a potential song in the making. Miles’s songs breathe with a sense of yearning and ownership. You want to have another record, another song- you want to hit rewind…you want to know more about this world created in song by Mr. Nielsen A captivating wordsmith, instrumentalist, and creator of hooks- rare indeed, but present in the person of Miles Nielsen. There are very few people writing music that makes you immediately wish there was “more”- another song to make you turn up the volume , another nugget of melody or lyric that you can find some part of to make your own. Gifts like Miles’s come along very infrequently, and one can only hope that his ability to be so “in the now” -listening for the songs spoken in the everyday world, will continue to grow. Then maybe that “more” we are looking for, will be given to us all… in the songs of Miles Nielsen.

The Mascot Theory
The Mascot Theory can be described as a high-energy dose of toe-tapping Americana folk-country rock drenched in tight harmonies spewing lyrics of love, loss, regret, death, and hope. They balance on an alternative folk influence and pull it together with a rootsy bluegrass blended Americana feel to give something that fits alongside their counterparts, but also has enough freshness to it to give it a unique spin and create their own sound as well, with a sonic backbone of 4-part harmony swells. Along with a 2017 WAMI (Wisconsin Area Music Industry) win for Best Male Vocalist (Erik Kjelland) and a nomination for Best Americana/folk artist, The Mascot Theory has won 22 MAMA (Madison Area Music Association) awards including back to back 2016 and 2017 Artist of the Year awards.

Beth Kille Band
At first glance, you may not know what to make of them….the farm boy, the intellectual, the ex-Marine, all backing up a wild-haired, shoot-from-the-hip spirited woman. But then the show begins, and you know you’re about to be wrapped in the arms of a cohesive unit bonded in the kinship of music. The four members of the Beth Kille Band -Michael Mood (bass, backing vocals), Tony Kille (drums), Michael Tully (guitar, backing vocals) and Kille herself (guitar, mandolin, vocals) – have amassed some impressive accolades. In addition to numerous songwriting recognitions, Kille grabbed one of her 19 Madison Area Music Association (MAMA) Awards when she was named “Artist of the Year” in 2010 and Tully snagged the highly-competitive “Guitarist of the Year” Award in 2014. Their style can best be described as Americana Rock but these dynamic performers can play everything from folk to funk to in-your-face rock.

Well Known Strangers
Well-Known Strangers has been entertaining Midwest audiences with their cello infused, alternative pop/rock sound. Members Joe Adamek (acoustic guitar), Betsy Ade (lead vocals, guitar), Sacia Jerome (cello, background vocals), Theodore Koth (lead guitar, background vocals) Roger Gower (drums/percussion) and John Kulas (bass guitar) just released their new EP “Path Away” on May 4th and radio stations around the country are spinning & streaming their single “Sidewalk”. Together, the band members have an amazing mix of musical knowledge and education that provides a unique sound that is reminiscent of familiar of music from the ‘90s while being expressively groundbreaking and melodically rich. They have been humbled by their success and performing with acts that include Blind Melon, Blue October, Candlebox, and many more. While Ade and Adamek do most of the songwriting, it’s the band’s creative spark and sonic diversity that are the driving force behind their sound.

STATEMENT FROM NEWSKI:
Big news today pals. I am proud to announce my third studio album, Life Upside Down out Sept 7 worldwide via Backseat and Nomad Union.

The past few years I’ve struggled hard with feelings of massive anxiety in my personal and professional life. It was that nervous energy that sparked the creation of these recordings. I hope these songs are evidence that anxiety/depression isn’t all terrible and can actually serve as positive, motivational force.

I wrote this album for the outsiders, introverts, and independent thinkers…what some would call the “non-cool crowd”. These are my people. The ones who don’t jump on bandwagons or care what their peers are wearing, watching or listening to. They like what they like, and while that may not be hip, it’s something to be proud of.

This album will not help you gain “scene cred” or popularity, but it will offer you a safe place to go when life gets wobbly.

Thru June only, you can get the album ahead of the rest of the world by joining the Dream Team on Patreon (LP ships Aug 1). Upon signup, you will ALSO RECIEVE receive a “Dave Grohl Does Not Listen to Brett Newski” shirt. http://patreon.com/brettnewski1

Loads of tour dates coming soon. Thanks for sticking with me. Have a calm and productive day 🙂

PRESS RELEASE:
Everyone is under the thumb of something: anxiety, toxic relationships, self-bullying, a miserable job, the list goes on. Life Upside Down is an album about turning life right side up. It’s about getting free from the worst enemy of all: thyself.

Brett Newski has certainly kicked his own ass over the past 6 years, touring infinitely (mostly alone) and wandering downthe rabbit hole of anxiety, depression, and wallowing self-doubt. All of these negatives have blossomed into positive creative energy on his third LP.

“Anxiety can actually be a good thing. If you use it right, that nervous energy can be channeled into motivation or creativity,” explains Newski. “Even the most seemingly confident people have self doubt.”

Produced by Hutch Harris of Sub-Pop legends The Thermals and engineered by Beau Sorenson (Death Cab for Cutie, Superchunk, Bob Mould), Life Upside Down is a beautiful catharsis to a happier brain and sense of belonging. If you frequently find yourself stuck in your own head traffic, this record might help get you free.

Growing up on Pixies, Cake, Beck, Weezer, and Violent Femmes (who Newski has toured with on several occasions), Life Upside Down channels a raw 90s sound that brings you back to an era where guitars were king and MacBooks didn’t count as a live instrument.

Catch Brett Newski in a land near you on the Life Upside Down world tour.

“Loudest acoustic act ever.” -Daytrotter

“I like the sound and the way he is forcing the world to contend with him.” -Brian Ritchie, Violent Femmes

“Good proper Midwestern indie rock.” -Matthew Logan Vasquez, Delta Spirit
