Old Soul Society brings their Americana Folk Rock show to Gibson Music Hall in Appleton, Wisconsin on Thursday June 13, 2019 from 7:00 – 10:00pm

Bio:
Old Soul Society is a Wisconsin-based act, rooted in Americana with branches into Folk, Rock, Soul, Pop, Country, Blues & more.

Fronted by Singer/ Songwriter Derek Ramnarace on Vocals & Guitars and featuring a cast of top notch musicians, Old Soul Society’s focus is clearly on the craft of songwriting as displayed in the rich, textured musical layers they create to underscore Ramnarace’s introspective, honest and heartfelt lyrics.

These details combine into a powerfully stirring live performance that has been winning over audiences everywhere. They have appeared on the same bill with such acts as Phil Lesh, Kaleo, The Dead Horses, Samantha Fish, Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts, Chicago Farmer, Them Coulee Boys and were contracted by Live Nation to appear in the VIP Lounge for Zac Brown Band

The star is already burning bright for Old Soul Society and only appears to be getting brighter following the releases of their debut album “The Farmhouse Sessions” in 2016 and their authorized bootleg “A Live One” in late 2018.

Copper Box, one of WI’s favorites, that brings melodic folk rock originals and covers featuring the multi instrumentalists, Danny & Michelle Jerabek. Copper Box is a genre-bending celebration of fusion roots rock that channels the rowdy communal feel of a small-town party with their refreshing, gutsy, americana sound of artists like the legendary Esteban Jordan (the Jimi Hendrix of the accordion), Doug Sahm, Clifton Chenier, Los Lobos, and CCR…a must see!

Helen Exner returns from Florida for an exclusive evening to play good music with old friends! Jay Stulo(guitar), Drew Hicks(bass), and Ryan Corb(drums) and of course, Helen Exner(keys and vocals).

Helen Exner grew up playing piano from the age of 5, writing down her first melody at age 8. The daughter of a doctor and nurse, she spent her childhood in different states and countries. These experiences influenced her love of history and culture, bringing her from the East Coast to Cameroon (West Africa) and Germany by the age of 12. In 1992 she arrived in Wisconsin, where she developed her love of classical music through private lessons and a stellar high school arts program at Shawano Community High School. She won state-level awards for her songwriting in high school, including a choral competition in 1998 that resulted in the Festival Choir of Madison singing her song “Tiller of the Soil,” in honor of Wisconsin’s 125th anniversary as a state.

Helen went on to study at the conservatory at Lawrence University in Appleton, spending two years as a pianist and composition major before graduating with a history degree. Following graduation, she made her living as a church musician while returning to school to become a licensed teacher. Helen juggled church-musician duties with teaching piano lessons in her private studio and accompanying at schools. She performed frequently as a singer and pianist in the local jazz circuit, frequenting locales like Cena, Deja Vu Martini Lounge, the Farmer’s Market and countless other venues and festivals. During that time, she gained a following in the local scene as a singer/songwriter who writes piano-driven tunes that tell personal stories–sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking, but always honest. Her unique sound was featured on the National Public Radio show “A Prairie Home Companion” in 2008 when Garrison Keillor brought his show to Appleton.

In 2013 Helen moved to south Florida to begin her math-teaching career, and she volunteers her time socializing homeless dogs as a member of the Everglades Angels Dog Rescue. She lives currently in Palm Beach County with her cats Daisy and Mario.

-The Outside Voices (Kent, OH)-
“The Outside Voices are a five-piece American rock band from Northeast Ohio. Rooted in Kent, OH – a town known for harboring the early playing careers of Joe Walsh, Dan Auerbach, and Patrick Sweany – The Outside Voices stay true to the area’s rustbelt rock reputation through a catalog of cleverly-crafted songs and charismatic live performances.”

-Horace Greene (Oshkosh. WI) –
“Horace Greene is a driven, passionate and charismatic band from Oshkosh, WI. Their sound is remarkably diverse and forward-thinking, blurring the lines between various genres. Their songs fall somewhere in between the melodies and grooves of 60s soul and the groundbreaking expressive energy of blues and alternative music.”

-Cullah (Milwaukee, WI) –
“Cullah has been releasing his music, every year, in albums since 2006. He releases these albums every April 27th in reverence of the date of his own creation. Each album is an exploration into different styles and techniques — an autobiographical journey of musical expression.”

It’s the kind of music that the Carhartt-wearing, hard-working, industrial beer-drinking, regular Americans would listen to — the ones who could end up on an episode of TV’s Dirty Jobs. It’s a little raw, a bit loud, unapologetic and honest. It’s Americana rock and roll and it’s something that Denver’s Strange Americans are crafting with both brawn and finesse, like a hot rod mechanic bringing back an old barn find.

In a sense, Strange Americans are rescuing something from the rust pile — straight-forward, no frills rock and roll, and a matching aesthetic that is heavy on songwriting and storytelling, but presented with reverb-drenched punch and passion — the way The Band or Crazy Horse would have done it.

Strange Americans have three full-length records, Royal Battle (2012), That Kind of Luster (2014), and Borrow You, Brother (2017), along with the 7″ Vinyl Places (2015). Borrow You, Brother was recorded with Echo Lab engineer and producer Matt Pence (Centro-matic, Justin Townes Earle).
